Great people are doing wonderful things for our vets. At WHOA, we realized long ago the importance of working with others to accomplish our common goals; one of which has been to find people who can help us accomplish“The Big Things” that we cannot do with our limited resources.
One of the best examples of that collaboration is our relationship with Beth Phillips and Furnishing Hope. This unbelievable foundation provides furniture to combat wounded veterans. It’s impressive that in only a few hours, they can dramatically change the lives of veterans and their families.
Moises and Elizabeth recently bought their first home. They used a VA loan and every last penny of their own to purchase a modest three-bedroom, two-bath home; quickly filling the house with love, joy, and gratitude. However, Moises and Elizabeth had minimum furniture for them and their four children.
Without hesitation, Beth and Furnishing Hope came to help and completely furnished the place; transforming it from an empty house into a warm, inviting home.
Special thanks to Beth, Furnishing Hope, and all the great volunteers who made this day possible for the Escareno family.

There are some great people doing some wonderful things for our vets. We at WHOA realized long ago the importance of working with others to accomplish our common goals, one of which has been to find people who can help us accomplish“The Big Things” that we cannot do with our limited resources. We understand now, as we did then, that to be relevant in the lives of our beneficiaries, it’s essential to know who is doing what.
We had the vets, but we didn’t have the deep pockets. Throughout the years, we have helped many vets in the So Cal area, often by giving them a few dollars and helping them solve their smaller financial problems. We like to refer to it as “putting out small fires before they become big ones.” However, the collaboration with other foundationshas produced some of the most meaningful results. Results such as many of our vets receiving mortgage-free homes, new cars, and homes full of furniture.
One of the best examples of that collaboration is our relationship with Beth Phillips and Furnishing Hope. This is an unbelievable foundation that provides furniture to combat wounded veterans, including countless WHOA veterans. It’s amazing that in only a few hours, they can dramatically change the lives of veterans and their families.
Moises and Elizabeth recently bought their first home. They and their four children had been living with their in-laws,and they were essentially sharing one bedroom. To purchase a modest three-bedroom, two-bath home, they used a VA loan and every last penny of their own, but they were ecstatic. Quickly filling the house with love, joy, and gratitude, they still, however, had very little furniture.
So, Beth and Furnishing Hope completely furnished the place, transforming it from an empty house into a warm, inviting home.
What happened at Moises and Elizabeth’s new residence was nothing short of amazing, and it has created an unforgettable impact on this young family. I’m sure everyone who took part in providing this beautiful gift feels privileged to have witnessed the events. We love these moments when a vet is shown that people really appreciate their sacrifice.
Moises went to war on behalf of our country, and in the process sustained burns to more than fifty percent of his body. In fact,he nearly died. Isn’t it great when that sort of sacrifice is recognized?
