A Tribute to Ron Salisbury and El Cholo

We could write pages about what Ron Salisbury has meant to our organization. He made it possible for us to grow, build an extended family of veterans, and simply have a welcoming place to break bread together with other vets and their families.

Ron is the owner of the El Cholo chain of restaurants. Ask anyone in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas if they’ve ever visited an El Cholo restaurant, and they’ll most likely say yes.

We realized very early on just how important fellowship was to our combat-wounded veterans. We didn’t have much of a budget to provide that until we met Ron. He opened the doors of his restaurants to our vets, never charging us a penny and treating us like royalty. It is because of Ron that we have the tight-knit family of veterans we have today.

We have been coming to El Cholo for over a decade. It’s more than just dinner—it’s an event. When we announce, “Hi people, we have El Cholo coming up!” we aren’t advertising a meal; we’re announcing our next time to get together.

We at WHOA love Mr. Salisbury. On Thursday, November 6th, Ron was recognized by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce for his life’s work and his latest restaurant and we were there to say THANK YOU . . Ron, from all those we serve, thank you for the love you have shown our combat-wounded vets.
